Same place , same time

2014-2024

Same Place Same Time is an evolutionary photographic journey that I have been creating for 10-years. It examines the interplay of time, place, and connection. This series, which commenced in 2014, encapsulates an image of my favourite solitary tree. This Photo was then subsequently used in a photo of a photo at the Same Place..Each new year the previous years photo was captured at the Same Place and as the years progressed the figures would appear breaking free or going in different directions and embracing the year ahead. These moments serve as a catalyst for reflection upon the previous year’s experiences and the setting of intentions for the coming year. Notably, each of my children takes their turn each year to feature in this photographic tribute. I have also witnessed while returning to the same place over the years massive changes from playgrounds to more trees planted.
Throughout the course of this project, there has been a remarkable evolution from a static photograph to a dynamic moving image, an analog flip book, and, in light of certain considerations due to the blurring of the image caused by the depth of field, a digital layering of previous years’ photographs over the current year. This year , i made an engaging video displaying the process as well as and video using Augmented Reality filter effect.
Same Place, Same Time explores a diverse range of topics that consistently captivate me within my broader portfolio of work. These include the enigmatic nature of time, the significant impact and influence of location, the profound bonds we create, and the transformative influence of visual storytelling. It exemplifies how a modest concept can evolve, develop, and flourish over time. I am genuinely intrigued to witness Same Place , Same Time evolution over the coming years as i would have never would have believed that the initial photo that i took all those years ago would have evolved so much.

I am always scouting Landcapes for Lone Trees, I was so pleased when I discovered this particular tree at a local Park on the foreshore at Rosebud in August 2014. It has since featured in many of my photos .I decided to make it an ongoing project. I particularly love the tree in Autumn and Winter as the sun sets directly behind making for some fantastic photo opportunities.
